Holden Efijy Takes On The World At Motorclassica In Melbourne

Monday, October 18, 2010

The Holden Efijy Concept is set to have a little extra (and very well deserved, we may add) time in the spot light. The slinky machine has been chosen to headline Australia's first international concours d'elegance at the end of this month, where it will be joined by classic and exotic vehicles from around the world. Holden first debuted the Efijy back in 2005, and the car immediately garnered praise from hot rod fans and designers alike thanks to its '50s-inspired lines and otherworldly powertrain. You see, under that retro skin sits a thoroughly modern driveline, including a chassis borrowed from a Chevrolet Corvette.
This thing isn't just a looker, either. Under that lead-sled coupe hood sits a fire-breathing, supercharged, 6.0-liter LS2 V8. Should you decide to open up both taps, there's a full 645 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque at your beck and call.

Paris Show: Opel's GTC, Hot New Concept 2011

General Motors is showing a number of vehicles based on its Delta II platform at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. The latest to be announced is Opel's stunning GTC Paris concept, a preview of Opel's future two-door hatchback.
"We wanted to express the most emotional side of the Opel brand and we believe this vehicle creates an appropriate visual impact to reinforce our dynamic sporty character," Opel vice president of design Mark Adams said.
Adams' team succeeded in its goal and produced a stunning car. The clean and emotional styling features carefully sculpted body lines that exude elegance. The front fascia features typical Opel styling cues, with its three-straked hood, standard Opel grille, and headlights taken from a production Astra. The bumper is bespoke to the GTC Paris, but the rest of the car from the A-pillar forward looks to be taken straight from production Astras.

2014 Lotus Elite, made public at Paris Autoshow

Monday, October 11, 2010

2014 Lotus Elite with Lexus ISF EngineAs brilliant as its chassis dynamics are, Lotus has been in need of a design revolution for some time now. And now you're looking at it. These are the first images and details released on the much anticipated new Lotus Elite, set to be unveiled in a little over a week from now at the rapidly approaching Paris Motor Show.

You can plainly see from the photos that the Elite marks a styling departure from the language spoken by the likes of the Elise and Evora. This svelte GT's lines represent what recently hired designer Donato Coco has planned for future Lotus vehicles, and comes wrapped around a front/mid-engined 2+2 shape. The show car actually showcases a retractable hardtop – a first for Lotus and a potential shocker to company founder Colin Chapman's ethos of extreme weight savings, the car tipping the scales at 1650 kg (3600 lbs).

The NEW Nissan Townpod EV Concept, a possible future of Cube

Nissan Cube
Although Nissan didn't mention the Cube in its press release on the new Townpod EV concept, it's not hard to make the connection between the two cars. However, the quirky looking sub-compact study, which made its world premiere today at the Paris Motor Show, makes use of the same zero-emission technology found within Nissan LEAF in a tall van-like body with suicide-style rear doors and split trunk doors.

Lincoln Continental, a possible Reborn! - Ford

Reports indicate that Ford has been meeting with dealer representatives to discuss the brand's options, including batting the Continental name around. Sadly, that's not likely because of the silly alphabetical naming system Ford's luxury brand has been using (I liked Zephyr to begin with) and the fact that Lincoln needs to be made young, not even more inaccessible.

Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Break Concept revealed ahead of Beijing

Mercedes-Benz may not have invented the idea of a "four-door coupe" with the original CLS back in 2005, but the German automaker can surely be credited with the recent influx of such designs from automakers as varied and far-ranging as BMW, Jaguar and Hyundai. As such, you can be sure that Mercedes is keenly interested in reinventing the look it made so popular in the first place so as to differentiate itself from its competitors.

Lamborghini Minotauro Design Concept – Supercar Without a Big V12 Engine

Andrei Avarvarii, a student at Milan’s Scuola Politecnica di Design, with assistance from Lamborghini’s design head Filippo Perini, designed this incredible electric 2020 Lamborghini Minotauro concept. The duo worked to achieve three different goals:
1. Aesthetic goal – Explore soft shapes for a new Lamborghini design language.
2. Technical goal – Redefine the Lamborghini supercar as an electric vehicle and
3. Functional goal: Integrate the new vehicle in the reality of the year 2020.

The Minotauro has two asynchronous 75-horsepower (56-kW, 76-PS) electric motors at the front that provide 30% of the car’s power, and two 175-horsepower (131-kW, 177-PS) electric motors at the rear. The system runs on a Cerio Li-Tec Flatcell battery, with a Kinetic Energy Recovery System also in place.
The press release goes on to explain the bonus of no big V12 out back: The absence of a big V12 engine in the rear creates enough room for a third passenger in a central position, like the legendary Mclaren F1.  While the driver’s door would be normal, the passenger side’s would be bigger to provide access to the back seat.
